Jai B. Kim, Robert H. Kim, Jonathan Eberle ... 358 pages - Publisher: CRC Press; (April, 2013) ... Language: English - ISBN-10: 1466566515 - ISBN-13: 978-1466566514.

Developed to comply with the fifth edition of the AASHTO LFRD Bridge Design Specifications [2010]––Simplified LRFD Bridge Design is "How To" use the Specifications book. Most engineering books utilize traditional deductive practices, beginning with in-depth theories and progressing to the application of theories. The inductive method in the book uses alternative approaches, literally teaching backwards. The book introduces topics by presenting specific design examples. Theories can be understood by students because they appear in the text only after specific design examples are presented, establishing the need to know theories. The emphasis of the book is on step-by-step design procedures of highway bridges by the LRFD method, and "How to Use" the AASHTO Specifications to solve design problems. Some of the design examples and practice problems covered include: Load combinations and load factors * Strength limit states for superstructure design * Design Live Load HL- 93 * Un-factored and Factored Design Loads * Fatigue Limit State and fatigue life; Service Limit State * Number of design lanes * Multiple presence factor of live load * Dynamic load allowance * Distribution of Live Loads per Lane * Wind Loads, Earthquake Loads * Plastic moment capacity of composite steel-concrete beam * LRFR Load Rating. Simplified LRFD Bridge Design is a study guide for engineers preparing for the PE examination as well as a classroom text for civil engineering students and a reference for practicing engineers. Eight design examples and three practice problems describe and introduce the use of articles, tables, and figures from the AASHTO LFRD Bridge Design Specifications. Whenever articles, tables, and figures in examples appear throughout the text, AASHTO LRFD specification numbers are also cited, so that users can cross-reference the material.

Michael O'Rourke ... 175 pages - Publisher: American Society of Civil Engineers; (August, 2017) ... Language: English - ISBN-10: 0784414564 - ISBN-13: 978-0784414569 ...

Snow Loads provides a detailed, authoritative description of the snow load provisions of Standard ASCE/SEI 7-16. With clear, concise language, Michael O'Rourke explains the theory and research that underpin the provisions and shows how to apply them to the design of new and existing structures that could collect falling or drifting snow. Design examples of flat roof loads, sloped roof loads, partial loads, and all types of conventional drift loading are included.

The most popular and affordable guide to the building regulations, Building Regulations in Brief is updated regularly to reflect constant changes. Now in its 6th edition, it has sold over 25,000 copies since its first publication in 2003. This new edition includes the latest on all the significant amendments to Building Regulations, Planning Permission and the Approved Documents between 2007 and April 2010 and includes changes to Parts A, B, D, E, F, G, H, J, L, M, and N.  The changes to Part G of Building Regulations (formerly titled “Hygiene” and now renamed “Sanitation, hot water and water efficiency”) which came into effect on 6 April 2010 are also included.

The no-nonsense approach has made it a firm favourite with all involved in the building industry including designers, building surveyors and inspectors, students and architects. A ready reference giving practical information, it enables compliance in the simplest and most cost-effective manner possible. Building Regulations in Brief cuts through the confusion to explain the meaning of the regulations, their history, current status, requirements, associated documentation and how local authorities view their importance, as well as emphasizing the benefits and requirements of each regulation. It’s an essential purchase for anyone needing to comply with the Building Regs.

286 pages - Publisher: AASHTO; 2nd edition (2012) ... Language: English - ISBN-10: 1560515414 - ISBN-13: 978-1560515418 ...

Covers seismic design for typical bridge types and applies to non-critical and non-essential bridges. Approved as an alternate to the seismic provisions in the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications. Differs from the current procedures in the LRFD Specifications in the use of displacement-based design procedures, instead of the traditional force-based R-Factor method. Includes detailed guidance and commentary on earthquake-resisting elements and systems, global design strategies, demand modeling, capacity calculation, and liquefaction effects. Capacity design procedures underpin the Guide Specifications' methodology; includes prescriptive detailing for plastic hinging regions and design requirements for capacity protection of those elements that should not experience damage.

ASCE ... 34 pages - Publisher: American Society Civil Engineers; (July, 2001) ...

This Standard covers the direct design of buried one-cell precast reinforced concrete box sections for the conveyance of sewage, industrial wastes, storm water and drainage, and to serve as tunnels. The design and analysis method accounts for the interaction between the box sections and soil envelope in calculating loads, pressure distributions, moment, thrust and shear in the box section, and includes a procedure for calculating the required reinforcement. Load effects are determined separately for each loading. The structural design of one-cell precast reinforced concrete box sections is based on a limits state design procedure that accounts for strength and serviceability criteria and is consistent with the procedures outlined in Section 17 of the AASHTO Standard Specification for Highway Bridges. The design criteria include: structural aspects, such as flexure, thrust, and shear strengths; handling and installation; fatigue limits; and crack width control. The design of a one-cell precast reinforced concrete box section is based on the assumption that specified design bedding and installation requirements will be achieved during construction of the installation. Owners and engineers will find this Standard useful in preparing contract documents based on the direct design method.

This standard provides requirements for performing analyses of new structure design or existing structure evaluation to determine the reliability of structures under earthquake motions. Rules and analysis parameters that are expected to produce seismic responses with about the same probability of non-exceedance as the input are outlined. Specifications of input motions are provided. Analysis standards are given for: modeling of structures; analysis of structures; soil-structure interaction modeling and analysis; input for subsystem seismic analysis; and special structures such as buried pipes and conduits, earth-retaining walls, above-ground vertical tanks, raceways, and seismic-isolated structures. Additionally, non-mandatory Appendix A provides a discussion on Seismic Probabilistic Risk Assessments and Seismic Margin Assessments.
