This book presents a unified view of concrete behavior in light of a
body of chemical and physical principles. It provides the most
up-to-date information available on new concrete materials.
The
most up-to-date information on new concrete materials. SI units used as
primary system, keeping readers current to the unit system being
adopted in the United States. Latest ASTM specifications are included.
Exercises at the end of each chapter. An excellent resource for
professionals in this industry.
From the BackCover: Much progress has been made in many areas of concrete technology since the publication of the first edition of
Concrete.
For those familiar with the first edition, very little has been
removed, while the chapters on cements, aggregates, chemical admixtures,
concrete construction practices, and durability have undergone major
revision. In addition, the text now contains new, separate chapters on
mineral admixtures - high-strength concrete - cement-polymer composites - fiber-reinforced concrete. As in the first edition, the authors present a unified view of concrete
behavior based on basic principles. The material on workability of
concrete is prefaced by a general discussion of the principle of
rheology; mechanical properties are discussed from the point of view of
concrete as a multiphase material; and the underlying chemistry of
hydration and microstructure of hardened cement paste are emphasized.
The result is a cohesive presentation of practical applications
supported by detailed background information, which serves both the
undergraduate and the practicing professional engineer.
