Fundamentals of Continuum Mechanics of Soils provides a long-needed general scheme for the study of the important yet problematic material of soil. It closes the gap between two disciplines, soil mechanics and con- tinuum mechanics, showing that the familiar concepts of soil mechanics evolve directly from continuum mechanics. It confirms concepts such as pore pressures, cohesion and dependence of the shear stress on consolidation, and rejects the view that continuum mechanics cannot be applied to a material such as soil. The general concepts of continuum mechanics, field equations and constitutive equations are discussed. It is shown how the theory of mixtures evolves from these equations and how, along with energetics and irrevers- ible thermodynamics, it can be applied to soils. The discussion also sheds light on some aspects of mechanics of materials, especially compressible materials. Examples are the introduction of the Hencky measure of strain, the requirement of dual constitutive equations, and the dependence of the spent internal energy on the stored internal energy. Researchers in engineering mechanics and material sciences may find that the results of experiments on soils can be generalized and extended to other materials. The book is a reference text for students familiar with the fundamentals of mechanics, for scholars of soil engineering, and for soil scientists. It is also suitable as an advanced undergraduate course in soil mechanics.

Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) is an important part of the data analysis process. The methods presented in this text are ones that should be in the toolkit of every data scientist. As computational sophistication has increased and data sets have grown in size and complexity, EDA has become an even more important process for visualizing and summarizing data before making assumptions to generate hypotheses and models. Exploratory Data Analysis with MATLAB, Third Edition presents EDA methods from a computational perspective and uses numerous examples and applications to show how the methods are used in practice. The authors use MATLAB code, pseudo-code, and algorithm descriptions to illustrate the concepts. The MATLAB code for examples, data sets, and the EDA Toolbox are available for download on the book’s website.

New to the Third Edition: Random projections and estimating local intrinsic dimensionality. + Deep learning autoencoders and stochastic neighbor embedding. + Minimum spanning tree and additional cluster validity indices. + Kernel density estimation. + Plots for visualizing data distributions, such as beanplots and violin plots. + A chapter on visualizing categorical data.

Since the publication of the bestselling first edition, many advances have been made in exploratory data analysis (EDA). Covering innovative approaches for dimensionality reduction, clustering, and visualization, Exploratory Data Analysis with MATLAB, Second Edition uses numerous examples and applications to show how the methods are used in practice. New to the Second Edition: Discussions of nonnegative matrix factorization, linear discriminant analysis, curvilinear component analysis, independent component analysis, and smoothing splines - An expanded set of methods for estimating the intrinsic dimensionality of a data set - Several clustering methods, including probabilistic latent semantic analysis and spectral-based clustering - Additional visualization methods, such as a rangefinder boxplot, scatterplots with marginal histograms, biplots, and a new method called Andrews’ images -Instructions on a free MATLAB GUI toolbox for EDA... Like its predecessor, this edition continues to focus on using EDA methods, rather than theoretical aspects. The MATLAB codes for the examples, EDA toolboxes, data sets, and color versions of all figures are available for download at http://pi-sigma.info.

DianaFEM v10.3 [Size: 1.02 GB] ... DIANA (Displacement Analyzer) is an extensive multi-purpose finite element software package that is dedicated, but not exclusive, to a wide range of problems arising in Civil engineering including structural, geotechnical, tunnelling, earthquake disciplines and oil; gas engineering. DIANA is a well proven and tested software package that has been used on various landmark projects all over the world. The program's robust functionality includes extensive material models, element libraries and analysis procedures, which are based on the latest and the most advanced finite element analysis techniques. DIANA has been equipped with powerful solvers in order to optimize the solution procedures for all types of linear and nonlinear complex models with accurate results and fast computations. Its unique analysis capabilities are empowered by full modeling capabilities in 2D and 3D environments and tools for CAD interoperability. With the continuous demand for more efficient utilisation of resources and materials, together with the increasingly complex nature of engineering structures, DIANA is the all in one solution, which provides the competitive advantage when tackling design and assessment work in a huge range of civil and geotechnical scenarios.

This comprehensive textbook combines classical and matrix-based methods of structural analysis and develops them concurrently. It is widely used by civil and structural engineering lecturers and students because of its clear and thorough style and content. The text is used for undergraduate and graduate courses and serves as reference in structural engineering practice. With its six translations, the book is used internationally, independent of codes of practice and regardless of the adopted system of units. Now in its seventh edition: the introductory background material has been reworked and enhanced * throughout, and particularly in early chapters, explanatory notes, new examples and problems are inserted for more clarity., along with 160 examples and 430 problems with solutions. * dynamic analysis of structures, and applications to vibration and earthquake problems, are presented in new sections and in two new chapters * the companion website provides an enlarged set of 16 computer programs to assist in teaching and learning linear and nonlinear structural analysis. The source code, an executable file, input example(s) and a brief manual are provided for each program.
